What is the Howling Pack?

·        The Howling Pack is now the annual fundraising program of the Athletic Department at The University of South Dakota. 

·        The Howling Pack was initially established in 1991 to support special needs by the athletic department that were not covered in the budget.

·        The Howling Pack had historically been a Sioux Falls, SD based booster group for Coyote Athletics.

What happened to the Coyote Athletic Fund (CAF)?

·        The Coyote Athletic Fund (CAF) exists now as the overarching umbrella for all athletic fundraising  to include the Howling Pack, Endowments, Special Events, and Capital & Special Projects.

·        The goal of the Howling Pack (formerly the CAF) is to completely support the scholarship costs (nearly $2,000,000 annually) of Coyote Athletics while maintaining academic integrity and citizenship, and fulfilling the University’s overall mission. 

How do I know my gift will be used by the Athletic Department?

·        Every donation will receive documentation as a receipt showing where the funds are allocated.

·        The Howling Pack is designed to only support Coyote Athletics through scholarship and programmatic support. 

How was this done in the past?

·        The CAF, Howling Pack and sports specific booster clubs raised money independently and at different times throughout the year.

·        Varying levels of giving levels and benefits were associated with each fundraising group.

Can a donor support a specific sport in the Howling Pack?

·        Gifts may be designated to specific sports while the donor receives the full benefits of the Howling Pack. 

·        Rather than making several contributions throughout the year to specific sports booster clubs, donors are asked to make one annual gift to the Howling Pack.

Why was the Howling Pack created?

·        Need for greater private support.

·        Comprehensive approach to fundraising was needed to maximize revenue, while minimizing the duplication of effort and confusion among our donor and fan base.

·        One giving mechanism to solicit donations.

·        Consolidate process for ask, documentation, benefits and receipt.
